PEMBROKE MA (October 1995) - "Twenty five years is a long time-especially
in today's competitive business world", notes Roman Research President
Sharon Ryan. Those who remember the social and technological upheaval of

time, Ryan adds yet another: "In 1970, we had just put a man on the

Thanks to the efforts of two medical supply salesman from Massachusetts,
that was about to change. In November of 1970, the world's first mechanized
ear piercing unit went into production-and an entire industry was created

the late 1970's-and so did the companies' fortunes.
Not content to rest on their laurels after ten years of steady growth, Roman

Dale Southworth. "At one time, garter belts were the primary cause.

calling for the industry to do what we've been doing for the last 15 years!"

stainless steel-resulted in the company once again creating a market where
none had existed before. Today Roman's "Simply Whispers Catalog"
boasts a base of 500,000 mail order buyers, and Simply Whispers are found
